Rev. Gary Wright
Pastor Wright was born in Newark, Ohio on October 6, 1960. He grew up in Toledo, Ohio with two younger brothers. He attended Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Michigan graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982 and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 1987. His vicarage was served at Hephatha Lutheran Church in Anaheim, California under the Rev. William J. Meyer and the Rev. Dr. W. Rod Rosenbladt of Concordia University, Irvine, California. He was ordained into the holy ministry at his home congregation, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Oregon Ohio on August 31, 1987.
Pastor Wright’s first congregation was a dual parish in the greater Saginaw, Michigan area. In March of 1990 he accepted the call to be associate pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. He has also served as a chaplain in the U. S. Army Reserve from 1990 to 1999. While in the Quad Cities, Pastor met his wife, Karen (nee Versluis) of Silvis, Illinois and they were married on April 16, 1994. The Wrights have two children, a son, Justin (22), and a daughter, Katie (20). Pastor Wright also has a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from Hamilton Technical College, Davenport, Iowa. He enjoys golf, brewing beer in his basement, and working on old cars. He is in the process of restoring a 1939 LaSalle sedan. Pastor Wright is grateful to the Lord of the Church for the opportunity to serve the saints at Zion and the community for the past 18 years in a ministry of Word and Sacrament.
